Horse shoe lip ring help?

i just recently got a horseshoe lip ring put in. befor it i had a 16 gauge stud than i put in a 14 gauge horseshoe. (it didnt hurt) and its fine most of the time, but other times the bottom spike will get pushed into my bottom lip and hurt. even while eating it is a pain. feels like i drool all the time, rofl! but can someone tell me who has experience, to tell me what its like, is it normal, will it get better? thanks.
